|
During the Secura 2009, held from the 25th to the 27th of March, the Brussels Expo was the place to be for those active in the fields of prevention, safety and wellness. A theme in perfect keeping with the Bata Industrials footwear. Visitors were able to appreciate this fact as well.
Held every two years, this event drew some 8000 visitors. Many of these visitors stopped by the Bata stand where they learned more about the safety shoe concepts targeting individual industry sectors. The Bata stand was primarily visited by OHS (occupational health and safety) doctors from Belgium and the Netherlands. Special interest was shown in the new safety shoes featuring GORE-TEX laminate for keeping feet warm and dry even in wet working conditions. The new Traxx models with the innovative Boa lacing system were also the object of deserved attention.
Professional expertise Visitors were particularly impressed by the level of expertise demonstrated when it comes to preventing and treating health problems. Problems which were discussed included perspiring feet, blisters, back problems and tired feet and legs. To address these problems, Bata offers a total concept in safety shoes, functional socks and inlay soles. The solution for an optimum fit, excellent climate management, support and shock absorption. A few examples of Bata technology:
- A polyurethane mid-sole, Tunnelsystem and outsole in a variety of materials and densities ensure optimum shock absorption to prevent fatigue and pain in the joints.
- Supportive inlay soles ensure extra comfort, which means wearers won’t tire as easily after a long day at work. This benefits safety on the work floor.
- Most Bata socks are developed with synthetic fibres (Pro-Guards or Thermolite). These fibres transport moisture to the interior of the shoe. The lining and the upper materials of the shoe then transport it back out to the exterior of the shoe. The wearer’s feet stay dry and fresh thanks to this perfect climate management.

Demonstrations The stand of Febelsafe (the Belgian association for suppliers and service providers active in the industry dedicated to safety and welfare at work) featured a real safety platform. Through various practical demonstrations, the importance of the proper personal protection devices (PPDs) was emphasised. As far as safety shoes are concerned, demonstrations were given to show how important steel toecaps and mid-soles in work environments where sharp objects may fall or penetrate the wearer's shoes. As a Febelsafe member, Bata Industrials made safety shoes available for a demonstration featuring a fall test.
AVAG meeting In order to remain up-to-date on the legislation involving PPDs, Bata is affiliated with AVAG, the industry association for working conditions, safety and health within work environments. AVAG members meet once every two years. During the AVAG's meeting at Secura 2009, a discussion of legislation was combined with a review of the latest developments in the PPD sector.
The next Secura will be held in 2011. Further information will become available on this website as the exhibition date approaches. |
