Bata Industrials’ safety products do more than just make an impression when it comes to functionality. For Bata Industrials, it’s ‘lonely at the top’ when it comes to well-thought-out and tasteful product designs. This concept has been confirmed once again by the fact that Bata Industrials’ Bickz collection was nominated in no fewer than two categories for the 2006 Dutch Design Prizes. First, fourteen professional juries pored over the more than 700 entries originating from various sectors. Out of this enormous number of designs divided among 14 categories, 157 were then selected for the 2006 Dutch Design Selection. Four models of 'The Natural' as well as the Bickz collection were part of this selection, models which Bata Industrials had entered for the 'Professional Product’ category to compete for the highly coveted design awards. Since both designs made it swimmingly through the first round, both the Bickz as well as The Natural models will be included in the 2006 catalogue, complete with a photo and caption, and will also be on display during the Dutch Design Prizes exhibition. This event will be held from 21 to 29 October in the former Philips Klokgebouw building at Glaslaan 2 in Eindhoven (Strijp-S complex). Awards ceremony 21 October The ultimate reward for entering both design samples however came on 4 October. This was when Bata Industrials learned that the Bickz collection was one of the final 59 designs nominated for the ‘Professional Product’ and ‘Design for All’ category awards. An utter success which, according to the jury, is due in part to the BOA clasps on the Bickz, inspired by snowboard footwear. On 21 October, during the awards ceremony in the Klokgebouw, Bata Industrials will find out for sure whether or not it will be rewarded for its revolutionary Bickz design with one (or two) Dutch Design Prizes.
