Every two year the World Solar Challenge is held in Australia. Universities from all over the world get their best students involved in creating the most efficient, fast and safe solar car to join in a race from the north to the south of Australia. This year the race started on October 18th and will run until the 25th of October.
Reigning world champion
The Technical University of Eindhoven (TU/e) is the reigning champion in their class, the family car. Two years ago their team won with the world renowned car Stella. The technicians of TU/e wanted this year to deliver a car for the future, which would be even more sustainable and created STELLA LUX. This family solar car can be charged wirelessly, is energy positive all year long (even with the Dutch weather conditions) and even improves safety on the road turning down the volume of the speakers when an ambulance is approaching.
Car of the future
STELLA LUX brings us one step closer to the car of the future. We’re proud that during the building process of the car the students were wearing Bata Industrials safety shoes with the highest ESD level and the BOA closure system. The advanced chips and batteries with which the crew was working were never in danger thanks to the ACT 125, which is made in the Netherlands.
Harm Daems, Global Brand Director Bata Industrials
‘’It’s always great to see people with passion and knowledge completely go for something and have a clear goal in mind. The STELLA LUX is an excellent example of innovation, sustainability, passion and safety coming together.’’
Solar Team Eindhoven
‘’We, Solar Team Eindhoven, will continue developing solar mobility. We search for new possibilities, new applications and new technologies to improve the way we drive. The World Solar Challenge is our stage to show our proof of concepts. The safety shoes of Bata Industrials helped us work on this dream together.’’
